Workshop mit Boris Nieslony (D)

The Art of Performance

Workshop|Weinviertler Fotowochen | 30. 07. 2011 - 06. 08. 2011

The workshop will focus on three movements: First, the perception of what is shown by the participants. Second, the image quality of each action, and third, its translation into photography. These three movements will develop and demonstrate eight different views during eight days. Each day will be structured along these views.
In the first movement, every participant will be asked to show something that arises from an inner motivation, enables one/s view onto one/s 'original self' and touches on it. We will speak of this in ways that will, wherever possible, avoid interpretation, yet describe in as much detail as possible what has happened (and so 'peel' it from the language). What has "really" happened? What were the sequences of movement? What was seen by the spectators? These and similar questions will be asked. We will also question if and how what we have seen has image quality, and explore alternatives to form the "image" more clearly or to shape it in different ways. Meaning: should we change what was seen following the impulse for action (or is what was seen real, adequate in the sense of its effect)? Following practical work (and in connection with the question of the "image") we will discuss structural practises of photographic views on performance and, where possible, apply them.
